Create your Own DIY Advent Calendar

I was a little shy five year old girl when I met my best friend. My parents had moved our family to another church in a new town and I was extremely nervous. It was a large church and I did not know anyone there. My parents sat me down in a pew unknowingly that it would forever change my life. Next to me sat my soon to be best friend whose dad could tell I was nervous so he began trying to make me laugh. Over the years we have gone through many trials together but our friendship has grown into a sisterhood and we have never left each other’s side.

Now that I’m a mom life is so busy. I don’t get to have the girl’s night outs like I used to. Now our time spent together is usually running errands, grabbing a quick bite to eat, and occasionally crafting for events. So when I heard about the Hyggehaus advent calendar contest I knew this would be the perfect opportunity to get to spend time with my best friend and do one of the things we love to do together, craft! Of course she was in and ready to get started as soon as I told her.

After we decided on a theme for our calendar, I strolled the Hobby Lobby isles and I quickly took photos to send to her. Gingerbread and candy land it would be!

The natural Hyggehaus unit comes ready to paint and customize. To get started we decided to remove the drawers and spray paint the whole unit green. This was super easy and quick. We then painted the drawers red with white knobs.

Next we took small gingerbread characters and candy Christmas tree decorations that we had found in Hobby Lobby and super glued them to the face of the drawers. We then printed off the numbers on the Hyggehaus clear sticky paper and applied them to the drawers.

It was easy, fun, and most importantly we had such a wonderful time together. Now we get to do another thing we enjoy doing together, shopping and brainstorming activities to finish filling the advent calendar! Here are a few items we have already collected to put inside of ours.
